What is Lima doing to decrease drinking and driving? (Adriana)

1. El amigo Elegido
This campaign is about when a group of friends go to a club and one of the friends doesn't drink at all. That friend puts a bracelet on so they don't sell alcohol to him. There is a benefit to be "El amigo elegido" it is that the club gives him free juice, and food, but not alcohol. They created this campaign to decrease drinking and driving in Peru. Car accidents have been reduced 4.2% since this campaign started.
Source:
peru21.pe/...relanzan-campanaamigo-elegido

Interesting! How does the club know that person is the "amigo elegido"? How does the campaign work? Is it really working?

2.+18

Backus is running this campaign because their purpose is to persuade people to not sell alcohol to kids under the age of 18, because they can use the alcohol in an irresponsible way . Many people are helping this campaign, this campaign appears in many medias (TV, radio, and many poster). In Peru there are a lot of irresponsible parents that let their kids drink. If a police sees someone selling alcohol to someone under 18 that person will go to jail.
We need to interview someone so we can get the information we need.

Who is running this campaign? The government? How do they make sure these places do not sell alcohol to minors?

3. Ponte un limite
This campaign is developed in massive communication medias. The purpose of this campaign is to make people put their own limit in drinking. The campaign makes you reflect on your actions when you drink and drive, and makes you take good decisions.
Source:
www.backus.com.pe/...campanas-publicitarias.html

Lima is doing many campaigns to decrease drinking and driving. This were some example of it. Many people agree with it because they think that is the right thing to do. But there are also people that dont like this campaigns because they think that it will ruin there privacy.

This is great information Adriana. Now it would be good to talk to someone who deals with people that drink and see if they really work.

What are myths and beliefs about drinking? (Juliana)

"There is no danger if i am below the legal limit"
False- If you are with the levels of 0.15 to 0.2 grams, you begin to become slower. Your reaction is slower and you can't stand up straight. You think you are fine, but you are really not.

"2 people who drink the same have the same blood concentration"
False- The blood alcohol concentration depends on the amount of alcohol consumed. However the blood alcohol level is influenced by the weight, time of day, body chemistry and gender of the individual.

"Alcohol consumed with food is not absorbed"
False- When you drink alcohol with your stomach empty the effect will be faster, if you drink it with your stomach full the that food will absorb part of the alcohol and that will give you more time to eat more food and to completely absorb the alcohol.

"I never give positive!"
False- Some people need to socialize with their clients and they get a drink. They think they can have 2 or 3 drinks and nothing will happen. What really happens is that your liver metabolizes about 7-10 grams of alcohol per hour, and is not going to metabolize more alcohol at that speed.

"A coffe, a nap and you are new!"
False- Many people think that drinking coffee or tea is going to counteract the effects of alcohol. Some people also believe that some they get some sleep and they are restored. Neither coffee or tea, or taking a shower, or sleep can alter the level of blood alcohol. This doesn't mean it can´t partially offset the influence of alcohol for some time.

"When i've been drinking, I compensate by driving very slowly"
Drinking and driving is not safe at any speed. Even by going slowly you will become a danger and may even be able to cause and accident.

"And the next morning good!"
This begins to be more frequent in our country because during the weekends they go out. Sometimes they drink a lot, in these cases it might happen that even after 8 hours of sleep, the alcohol level doesn't go below the legal limit. Especially when they drink alcohol to counteract the effect of hangover. For example a person with BAC of 1.8g may need 6-10 hours for the alcohol to get negative (Less than 80 mg/100 ml).
